By law, COMPREHENSIVE AND COLLISION coverage is not required to be on an auto insurance policy.
A finance company may require it if there is still a balance on a car loan.
A client might consider getting COMPREHENSIVE AND COLLISION coverage on a vehicle if the vehicle is still worth ( in terms of value) protecting against some kind of loss. They also might consider getting these coverages on a vehicle if that vehicle is their ONLY mode of transportation.
In simplest terms, COLLISION is when the vehicle COLLIDES with something including potholes, but NOT animals......COMPREHENSIVE is easily defined as "other than collision" . The basic list of causes of loss for the COMPREHENSIVE cases are: fire, theft , vandalism and random acts of nature ..including collision with animals.
